BIG FREEDIA - “Excuse”
Ok, I’m back with some New Orleans (NOLA) Bounce. I never thought I’d enjoy this music very much, but my love for Treme—David Simon’s newest HBO project—has got me dabbling in all sorts of funkiness.
Bounce, for all of those unfamiliar with the term, is a type of Hip-Hop that emerged from New Orleans in the late 80’s/early 90’s. Featuring loud and overtly sexual “call-outs”, it takes Mardi Gras Indian chanting, roughs it up with rude licks and places a loud, bouncey beat in the background. Sounds terrible, right? Somehow, these seemingly obnoxious sounds come together to make something I will only be able to stand listening to a couple more times, yet truly do respect.
After watching quite a few Bounce videos I will say that for the most part you will see 3 things:
1. Booty shakin’
2. Booty clappin’
3. more BOOTY SHAKIN’
